How it works

The same ten pieces.Four ways to fit them.

Each piece has two levels, a bottom and a top, with an axle between them. Depending on the game, the top stays at rest or pivots, and a different judge has the final say. Every challenge has only one way to fit everything.

The judge

The liddecides.

No screen, no answer key to look up. When everything is right, the lid lies flat and the keys come out the other side. Otherwise, it rocks.

ISmooth side

It lies flat if both levels are full and every arm is at rest. Turn a single arm, and it rocks.

Bridges · Tunnels

IITen-peg side

Turn the plate over: it only lies flat if every peg lands on an axle, the circle in the middle of a piece.

Pivots · Grand Game

IIITwo keys

The ▭ key goes through a row on the bottom level, the ◯ key through a column on the top level. Every cube has its own tunnel: you have to line them up.

The four games

One box,four games.

All four read the same way: one rule, one judge, 120 challenges in 5 levels of 24. The higher the level, the fewer pieces you are given.

Game 1 of 4

Bridges

120 challenges · 5 levels of 24

Fill both levels, every arm at rest.

The top of one piece bridges over the bottom of another: this is the bridge game, and the way in.

What decides
The smooth lid lies flat.

Wizard2pieces

24 challenges per level, pieces given at the start. At Wizard level, two given pieces and nothing else.

2,144ways to fill the box with every arm at rest. Each challenge leaves only one.

The rule in three steps
  1. Place the given pieces by following the steps, each with its arm at rest: the two notches on the axle cube line up and the arm clicks. The box's ▲ mark goes in the back left corner.
  2. Fit in the other pieces, arms at rest too. Turn them and flip them: a flipped piece swaps its bottom and its top. The top of one piece can pass over the bottom of another.
  3. The lid decides: put the plate on smooth side down. Does the smooth lid lie flat? You win. Does it rock? A space is empty, or an arm is not at rest.

Game 2 of 4

Pivots

120 challenges · 5 levels of 24

Fold the arms: every axle under a peg.

The arms come free: you fold each piece so that its axle lands right under a peg.

What decides
Free arms: the peg side lies flat.

Wizard2pieces

24 challenges per level, pieces given at the start. At Wizard level, the plate's direction is hidden: it is up to you to find it.

927possible fits for each direction of the plate. Each challenge leaves only one.

The rule in three steps
  1. Place the given pieces by following the steps, with the arm folded as shown on the thumbnail. The box's ▲ mark goes in the back left corner.
  2. Fit in the other pieces. Here the arms are free: leave the top of each piece at rest, or turn it a quarter turn or a half turn, as you like.
  3. Free arms, the peg side lies flat: put the plate on pegs down, its mark in the corner shown. Every peg must land on an axle, the circle in the middle of a piece. Does the plate lie flat? You win. At Wizard level, the plate's direction is not shown: find it.

Game 3 of 4

Tunnels

120 challenges · 5 levels of 24

Open a way for both keys, every arm at rest.

Every cube has a tunnel through it: line them up, and both keys go through the box.

What decides
Both keys go through and the smooth lid lies flat.

1,224fits where both keys go through. Each challenge leaves only one.

The rule in three steps
  1. Place the given pieces by following the steps, arms at rest, marks as shown on the thumbnail: the two small lines on each cube show which way its tunnel runs. The box's ▲ mark goes in the back left corner.
  2. Fit in the other pieces, arms at rest. Turn them and flip them: a flipped piece swaps its bottom and its top.
  3. Both keys go through and the smooth lid lies flat: you win. The ▭ key goes in from the left, into the row shown, on the bottom level; the ◯ key from the front, into the column shown, on the top level. At Wizard level, it is up to you to find the row and the column.

Game 4 of 4

Grand Game

120 challenges · 5 levels of 24

All three judges at once: pegs and keys.

Everything at once: free arms, pegs and keys. The experts' game, once the other three are mastered.

The pieces

The top of each piece turns. It clicks into its starting position.

  • 01Two levels per piece, joined by an axle: the top turns on the bottom, a quarter turn at a time.
  • 02At rest is the starting position: the two notches line up and a small catch holds it there. In Bridges and Tunnels, every piece stays at rest; in Pivots and the Grand Game, you turn it.
  • 03A tunnel in every cube, and two engraved lines to show which way it runs.
  • 04Four shapes to learn: the cube, the domino, the bar of three, the L. Pieces on a 20 mm pitch, made for the hand.
